Stavros is located on the north-west tip of the Akrotiri peninsula and about 14km north of the city of Chania. Beaches tend to be very quiet during on weekdays and there is little to disturb the peace but it can get more crowded at weekends as Stavros is a very popular place with the locals. A beach cantina opens in the summer season serving the basics and a good taverna is located on the main road. Stavros village has restaurants and shops but no nightlife beyond the tavernas and bars. Other beaches are nearby, notably at Kalathias which has windsurfing and scuba diving. Inland Akrotiri is great for nature lovers with plenty of hiking trails, some old monasteries and several ancient ruins.
