Apokoronas was also the location of much of the filming of the movie “Zorba, the Greek.” The previous municipality of Fres is found in mountainous Apokoronas in a distance of 30km from the city of Chania and included the municipal apartments of Fres, Paidochorio, Melidonio, Pemonion and Tzitzifes. Main activities of the area are agriculture and cattle-breeding. Main characteristic of the municipality Fres is its green plains and its crystal clear water.
